Five Signs You Need to Move Down in Limits

Building a bankroll in online poker and making the journey from micro limits to high limits is tough.  Most people fail.   Others make it for awhile and then get wiped out.  Some make it a few miles, but can’t complete the journey.  That doesn’t need to be you.  You can make the trip from poker rags to poker riches.  We know you in particular can because everyone can.  It’s simply a matter of following the rules.

Players who follow the rules succeed.   It’s about learning to manage your poker game.  One of the hardest things for a player to do is move down in stakes.  It’s tough to do because it has takes hard work and perseverance to get to the higher limits, especially if you have followed proper bankroll management.  But if things aren’t going well at higher limits, not moving down can break a bankroll very quickly.  And in the end, it’s far more humbling to lose a bankroll knowing it could have been prevented than it is to move down in stakes.  Below are five warning signs it might be time to revert back to lower limits for awhile.

1. You are simply not making money. Though it may seem obvious, this rule goes ignored far too often.  Don’t think you are better than you are.  If you can’t find a way to turn a profit over a significant enough sample size, you were simply not ready.  Drop back to a limit where you were successful and do it over again.  The beauty of poker is it’s a practice game, not a perfection game.  Keep playing, you will succeed.
2. Your Bankroll drops below 100 big bets. While playing limit poker, you need 100 big bets at the beginning of the session.  Variance in poker is something everyone deals with.  Thinking you can beat variance is thinking you are somehow above the laws of mathematics.  You are not.
3. You can’t find beatable games. Game selection in poker is an important element to winning.  And good game selection goes against many people’s logic.  Most people want a challange.  Play against the best and beat the best.  Trying to do this in online poker will break you very quickly.  Find a game where players are worse than you.  If you can’t find beatable games at a higher limit, move down.  You can always find beatable games at lower limits.
4. You’ve been pegged. Online poker players have become very savvy.  Online poker tools allow for tracking opposition very easily.  If your opponents know how to beat you, stop playing them.  Move down.
5. You went busto.
